In the early morning hours of September 14, a young Dallas man was abducted, savagely beaten, and bound to a telephone pole via railroad spikes driven through his hands and ropes tied around his legs. His assailants also left him with a strange marking upon his chest. Once his head was lifted, it was obvious that this marking was a very large letter "V" in a thick red liquid, later identified as pigs blood.
His offence? Being seen outside of Bloody Mary's bar with a vampire co-worker as they prepared to share a drink after work.
The man, Adam Zapel, was found by a waitress in the alleyway when she closed up the bar around 5:00am. He is currently listed in serious condition at the Medical City Hospital. Police currently have no clear suspects, but are scouring security footage from the cameras at the back of the bar.
This is the latest in a series of attacks that have been happening at or around vampire establishments in the city of Dallas, and that they are now targeting vampire-friendly citizens has the American Vampire League in an uproar.
"For us," says Isobel Symon, spokesperson for Nan Flannigan, "this attack marks a most regrettable moment that we had hoped would never happen — the day when a human is injured while standing up for the persecution of our kind. If it were not for the generous help of our human volunteers and League supporters, the Vampire Rights Amendment would not have even made it to Congress. Many of our kind would still be living in shadows, we would still be a persecuted minority. The American Vampire League will not forget the contributions our human friends have made and we are working diligently with the Dallas Police Department to bring the perpetrators of these hate crimes to justice." She went on to add, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Zapel as he makes the arduous journey to recovery. Rest assured, the American Vampire League will cover all the medical expenses."
