It's a Small World

Synopsis

February 9, 2005 - Orion meets Abbey when he has motorcycle trouble. They discover that they are both from the same town in Ireland. Orion worries she might be familiar with his family curse.

Setting

Bunker's Garage and Salvage:

Bunkers's Garage and Salvage sits on a rather large lot in the West Dallas neighborhood. The parking lot is small, and one spot is occupied at all times by a beat-up tow truck. Two fully equipped bays, complete with safety notices on the walls are for employees only. To the right side of the bays is an office, containing a simple desk with a grubby looking computer, and a filing cabinet. Behind the desk is a small whiteboard which lists inspection prices, and those for other services. The walls are decorated with a few small display cases where items available for sale are located.

Cast

Abbey:
There's no telling what her age is, somewhere in the early twenty's if someone was to guess. Her height is about 5'9 a bit on the tall side but nothing that abnormal. Long bright red-orange, lose spiral curls are found upon her, it flows down to her mid back and can be often found pulled into a pony tail to keep it out of the way. A few lose curls fall to either side of her cheeks, and bangs rest just a bit above her eyes.

Her clothing isn't anything un-normal. A short or long sleeved shirt can be found on her depending the day or the weather, most dark colored. Black or blue ankle length jeans are found on her lower half, they tend to be a bit snug on her hips and flow down the rest of her leg. Her foot wear also depends on the weather, or what she's doing. Sneakers or boots are her choices though. A thick leather cord rests around her neck with a pewter dragon charm upon it, the two inch charm holds within its grasping forepaws is a pale blue gem. Depending on the weather is what jacket she wears a long black leather duster or a more simple leather jacket.

Three golden studs can be found upon the edge of both ears, another silver stud found in her right eyebrow. She also has a good collection of tattoos and scars. An old small slightly jagged scar rests across her right cheek, others found elsewhere on her. Black tribal like tattoo markings curl around and then down both of her forearms to circle around her wrists in a Celtic knot work pattern. Other tattoos are unseen thanks to her clothing. Her eyes are an interesting pale icy blue color; rather eerie in a way which tends to make her stand out if anyone pays enough attention to her.

___

Orion:
You see a man in his mid thirties who stands a little over six feet and weighs approximately 180 pounds. One can tell by looking at him that he works out regularly. His face is rugged but attractive, usually with a couple of days worth of stubble on his cheek. His hair is brownish red and cropped short, spiking up a bit on top. His eyes are deep gold and appear to be almost an unnatural shade. He bears a tattoo of a paw print on his left upper arm. When the man speaks, he has a very distinct Irish accent. It is strong, but not to the point that he is difficult to understand.

The man is wearing a tight fitting brown shirt with blue jeans. He has brown boots on and a silver watch on his right wrist. His ears are each pierced with a silver ring, and he has mirrored sunglasses pushed up on his head.

Scene

Its about the middle of the afternoon and there are a few cars being worked on within the garage. One is an old ford mustang that Abbey is currently working on. A radio is heard playing in the shop and two other workers are busy with what all they happen to be doing. A large red brindle colored bull mastiff is settled near the open bay door where Abbey happens to be. Clothing of choice is a gray button up shirt that says Bunket's Garage across back, jeans and work boots.

___

The distant sound of a motorcycle can be heard from the street. The sound grows as the bike approaches, and as it approaches it can be assumed by the noises the bike is making that there is something wrong with it. The bike slows as it approaches the shop and then can be heard turning off. “Bloody thing! Yer such a waste of money!” The voice is male and distinctly Irish sounding. Orion pops his head into the shop and looks around. “’ser anybody home here? Got a bit of a problem with me bike it seems.” He notices the dog and frowns. He tends not to get along well with dogs.

___

Abbey hears the approaching bike and lifts her head, pale gaze watching as someone pulls into the lot. A glance is over to Mack and she shakes her head. "I'll get it." Is said while she moves around the car heading towards the front. "Afternoon." This said while she smiles a moment. "Can I help ye?" Thick Irish accent picked up the more to speaks. The scent of a shifter catches her attention with little problem, and Steele merely lifts his head to watch Orion with a warey glance.

___

Orion eyes the dog warily for a moment or two before taking a couple of tentative steps into the garage. He looks over at the woman and smiles meekly "Er, yeah. She started acting up the other day. Dunnae know what's the matter with 'er. Suspect maybe the engine?" He chuckles and rubs the back of his head, "Honestly I don't know the first thing about machines." He points to the lot at a green Victory Hammer Motorcycle before eyeing the dog suspiciously. "Funny…Dogs usually hate me." He shakes his head and looks back toward Abbey. "Anyway, sorry to ramble on and all that such, name's Orion. Are you Er…Mrs. Bunker?" If the man is able to detect anything odd about Abbey he does not show it.

___

Abbey is a bit amused at the Bunker part, she smirks at this. "Naw.. Names Abbey." She says while moving onout from the garage to look at the bike in question. "Steele won't bother ye, he listions well to me." A faint hum escapes her while she looks atthe bike then glances back to him. "Well..I can look at if ye like? I won't charge ye nothing until tell ye what's wrong tho."

___

Orion still seems fixated on the dog. It’s so unusual. He has never been around such a calm animal before. As Abbey speaks she seems to rouse him from his thoughts. “Hmmwhat? Oh, right! Yeah, don’t worry about the charge, miss. Just want her running properly again sometime. The Jeep’s not nearly as fun as the bike on a nice warm day, ya know?” He walks back out to the bike and puts his hands on his hips, frowning at it. “She’s not THAT old. Probably four or five years at most.”

Orion glances up at a man jogging across the street. At almost the exact moment the Irishman notices the other, the jogger trips and lands in a sprawl. Orion winces slightly. “Oh, sorry ’bout that…Er…Yeah be careful.” The man’s too far to hear his odd choice in words, stands up, brushes himself off, and continues on looking a bit embarrassed.

___

Steele just watches Orion, as if his used to strange stuff happning, though with Abbey being a wolf that may have something to do with it. The dog actually flops back over and just falls back to sleep. Abbey crouches down looking at the bike, she fiddles with a few things while listioning to Orion. "Ya.. Might just need to get the fuel injectors cleaned up or replaced." Her pale gaze lifts to Orion then towards the jogger on the other side of the street as she hears the man near her which makes her blink. She looks back to Orion a moment and peers at him. "What.. ye commonly make people trip and then appolgize for it?"

___

Orion tries to pay attention to Abbey, but he’s really bad with anything mechanical. He has a blank expression as she speaks, but after the man trips he looks a little nervous. “What me? Er…No! It‘s A…I just meant that I was sorry he tripped. It‘s an Irish thing perhaps?” Something about his explanation is extremely doubtful. He’s so shifty eyed and distracted that it’s obvious he’s trying to hide something. Granted, it was just a man across the street tripping. Just a coincidence in the eyes of anyone other than Orion. “So these fuel intersectors, Can I just pull ‘em out and put ‘em in a dishwasher?” He tries to shift the conversation back to his bike.

___

Abbey smirks while eyeing Orion. "Funny.. I don't remember that when I was growing up." Her thick Irish accent heard again while she stands up and brushes her hands off. "Naw.. I can take 'em out and look 'em over. It might be something else tho." She glances to him, noting the look his taken. "Hey.. chill out. Ye act like ye just killed someone, geezs." A hand is lifted and she points to the garage. "Can I take the bike inside and get it on the lift?"

___

Orion looks a bit confused by Abbey’s comment for a moment. Then he realizes that she also has an Irish accent. He’d spent so much of his life with others with the same dialect he had not seen her manner of speech as anything odd. “Oh wait a sec, yer Irish too are ya? Forgot I was in America for a sec.” He chuckles slightly. “Yeah maybe it’s an older expression? My clan’s a bit of an old one. Er…Yeah.” He looks back toward where the jogger was and shakes his head. “Yeah I just. Seeing him fall reminded me of something is all.” Still not a great cover, but whatever. “Anyway, yeah. Let’s get her inside of the shop for ya.” He mounts the bike and starts her up, edging it slowly into the garage.

___

"Naw.. I use the accent to pick up guys.." Abbey says with a joking tone. "Ya I'm Irish." This said as she grins. A shrug is offered. "Suppose that's possible.." She points to the area that his the bike lift. "If ye can just get it over der that will be helpful."

___

Orion chuckles a bit at her joke and moves the bike to the area she indicated. “I really appreciate ya takin’ a look so quick an’ all. Most places around here make ya sit around for hours.” He is a bit relieved that she did not ask him his clan’s name, though chances are she’ll see it when he pays with his card. But maybe she was younger when she left Ireland and does not know about the rumors. “So when’d ya get to this place? I lived in Ireland until about ten years ago meself.” He casts frequent glances toward the dog. It seems well behaved, but Orion simply can’t get past how tame it is.

___

Abbey smiles as she follows along back into the garage, the helps getthe bike on the lift and pushes a few buttons to make the lift move and bring the bike up so she can look at it without have to be on the ground. "Not a problem. I was working on my own car, and the other guys can finsh what there doing while I do this." In a matter of moments she has the spark plugs out checking them over and a few other areas upon the motor. "I've been in the state for a while now.. I guess since I was a kid." Her accent stays thick mostly as she talks but it does break up at certain times. This normally happens unless she puts for an effort, or is rather mad at the time when talking. Steele is happy where he is just sleeping in the sunshine it seems.

___

Orion watches her with interest and listens to her story. He glances back toward the other men when she mentions them, they each seem too interested in their own vehicles to pay much attention to the two of them. “I see. I came out here to go to school. Suppose I should stop back sometime and get all my legal stuff figured out, though.” He shakes his head, “Ah it can wait. You ever plan on going back?” He has contented himself by standing in such a position that he is able to see both Abbey and Steel e at the same time.

___

Abbey pauses slightly at the talk of going back, she never thought about that. She's quiet and shakes her head a moment while moving to the work bench and picks up a box that has sparke plugs in it. "No.. No family left there anyway. My life is here now anyway, wouldn't make any sense." That an if the pack that killed hers knew she was alive it could mean trouble. "Ya.. I know a few people that can help with that if you want."

___

Orion notices a slight change in the woman’s demeanor, though it may just be because she is focusing on the bike. “Oh I didn’t mean to stay, just to visit. And as for my legal stuff I have to deal with a couple of estates outside of Galway. I already got me dual citizenship and all that figured out, but I haven’t decided if I’d rather hold on to the properties or not.” He shrugs. “Actually I suppose I’m fond of my job here. A bit on the warm side in Texas, though. Well that and apparently people like blowing up Vampires and such.” He is referring to the parade incident from a while back. He did not live in Dallas at the time, but he had read of the event.

___

Abbey blinks at this and glances back to Orion looking at him curiously a few moments while she leans against the lift table. "Wait.. Your from Galway?" Talk about a small world. "I was born and lived there till coming here to the states." She pauses for a moment while watching him, her eyes slightly narrowing. "What's your clan name?" Heck for all she knows he could be with the pack that wiped hers off the map so to speak. While she can pick up on scents she can't always tell the different between shifter and wolf.

___

The man tenses up for a moment. “Ah, you’re from Galway, too? That’s…Interesting.” He looks slightly concerned when she asks for his clan name. He hesitates for a moment, trying to decide if he should give a false name or not. Orion decides after a moment that if he gives a false name she’ll be able to tell later when he gives her his credit card anyway. “Um…I’m from the Donnelly clan.” He sighs. Just about everyone in Galway had heard the rumors of the Donnelly clan. The rumor is that the clan is haunted by a Black Hound which causes misfortune to all who see it. The clan members tend to be ostracized out of fear that their bad luck will spread to those around them.

Orion is silent for a short moment, looking back at the girl. She looks to be a bit younger than him. Maybe ten or fifteen years difference. Maybe she hadn’t heard such things. The truth, unbeknownst to Orion, is that his ancestors were known to Abbey’s pack and vice versa. His uncle only mentioned werewolves in passing when Orion was a child.

___

Abbey tilts her head while she watches Orion a few moments, waiting for a name.. Hey she has his bike not like his going to get out of here quickly on foot after all. "Donnelly.." She says for a moment before turning to look back at the bike, thinking before a soft ah escapes her. His a shifter not a wolf. She relaxes more at this. "A small world we're in an't it?" Is questioned with a joking tone while she glances back over and gives him a friendly smile. She knows about the curse but doesn't believe in it. "I don't think your bike is in that bad of a shape. I'm just going to check the oil and the filter and see if that'll help with the problem."

___

Orion watches the woman closely as she seems to try to remember the name. He frowns when her expression shows that perhaps she recognizes it, but her words lead him to believe that perhaps she does not. Or maybe by virtue of living in the States she is naturally less superstitious than the people of Ireland. Orion cannot decide on anything from the woman’s reaction, but her friendly demeanor is enough for him to know that she is not going to judge him for his lineage. The man relaxes considerably and smiles back at Abbey. “Oh I’d be quite happy if it were something so easily fixed. I assume…That Is an easy fix, right?” Ask him to decipher an ancient text and Orion can do it in a heartbeat. Ask him to change the oil in a car and he’ll stand there for days staring blankly at the vehicle. It is simply not one of his fortes.

___

Abbey waves a hand slightly. "Ya, take me a few moments to drain the oild out and put some fresh oil in. Changing the filter is easy part of it." While she knows of his family she sees no reason to black ball him like others might. Its not how she works after all. She goes about getting hold of a pan and then drains the oil out from the bike. "So..What doyou do again? I think you said something an I just sorta wasn't paying attention at the time.. Sorry."

___

Orion glances at the dog again, it still seems harmless. He then looks back at Abbey and frowns slightly as she does all manner of mysterious thing to his bike. “Gods, I’d never be able to figure something’ like that out. Me bike’d be in pieces all over hell.” He smirks slightly and nods to her question. “I may not have mentioned. I work at the Art Museum. Translate and catalogue old texts and artifacts and such. Perhaps not as fun as fixing cars all day, but I enjoy it well enough.”

___

Steele is happly sleeping, not seeming to care that there is someone new around. "Sounds interesting enough to me." Abbey offers while she works. "Me I couldn't do any of them, give me a car and I can take it apart and put it back together though."

___

Orion laughs. Oh not me. I take a car apart no one’ll be able to put it back together again. And translatin’ old texts isn’t so hard. It can just be tedious at times, especially when you only have a fragmented text.

___

Abbey smiles and nods while she goes about taking the old filter out and places in a new filter. A few other things are checked, like wires and the like. Once the oil is drained out she goes about putting new oil in the bike. "Sounds like you got interesting job there." She hums oftly and then lowers the lift, taking the bike off of it. "Well.. You can try her and see if that's any better. if not its gona take me looking in the engine itself an that is gona take longer then I have tonight."

___

Orion is quiet during most of the bike inspection, answering a few questions and asking one or two of his own. After Abbey finishes up with the bike he walks over to start it up. After listening for a few moments he nods his head and smiles. He turns off the engine so they can hear. “Ah, sounds a ton better, thanks so much!” He reaches for his wallet. How much do I owe ye, Miss?”

___

Abbey smiles and nods while tilting her head to look at the bike then back to Orion. "No problem.." She shakes her head. "Its on the house.. First oil change an all." This said while she grins. "Though that's just a special for people from Glaway." She says with an amused tone. Mack calls out her nap and waves a phone in the air to show she has a phone call. "It was great to meet you Orion, if you ever have a problem with the bike or Jeep stop by." She pauses. "Of if you want to talk about anything.." Anything indeed, like being a shifter, not that she can come out and say that. "Have a good afternoon!" This said while she moves over to get the phone and talk into it. Steele is awake now and is eyeing Orion curiously for a few moments before he stands up and makes his way into the office with a faint wruff escaping him as he goes.

___

Orion smiles at Abbey. A free oil change? Well that’s quite nice of her. Perhaps she really doesn’t know anything about the rumors surrounding his clan. He may stop by to chat sometime, though he does not know that Abbey is different from any other human, so he assumes her invitation to chat is just that. He shakes his head and holds up his hand “I appreciate a free oil change, but I feel like…” He stops and frowns to himself as he sees her running off to answer the phone. He sits there on his bike for a moment and contemplates waiting for her to come back, but the dog’s sudden movement changes his mind. He pulls a fifty out of his wallet and sticks it behind the windshield wiper of the car Abbey was working on before getting back on his bike and heading home for the night.
