Offices of Savoy and Savoy, Attorneys at Law

The law offices of Savoy & Savoy are the epitome of taste and class in a refined business atmosphere. Shades of white and silver and eggshell are accented by modern works of glass and sculptural art. A creme-coloured marble-topped reception desk leads out into a comfortable, spacious reception area, the furniture clean, modern and elegant. A large set of double doors set directly behind the reception area leads into the managing partner's office, and a hallway that runs parallel to the business front leads off to a series of other offices as well as to the private law library housed within.

Early afternoon, perhaps an hour or so after lunch time, and the office is as busy as it ever is, the movement of lawyers and paralegals, couriers and clerks a well ordered machine. There are a few clients waiting in reception, but they all seem content to wait, and there's little of the tension one might expect in such a locale. Desiree, as ever, is seated at the front desk, signing off for a delivery from an outside courier, before she turns away momentarily to hand the package off to an intern coming in from the library.

—-

Heading into the office Oliver takes a glance at the faces in the room he's the type to keep record of the people he seen. He heads over to reception with an easy confidence, his smile bright and charming as he speaks. "I'm Oliver Marcos, here for my appointment with Mignonette Savoy." He seems laid back enough, not the type to worry about a wait if it should be necessary.

—-

Desiree looks up, as Oliver approaches her desk, and she offers that same friendly, charming smile that everyone gets when they enter the firm's office, though, perhaps, recent events considered, the smile he receives is turned up a notch or two, "Oh, of course Mr. Marcos, she's waiting for you in her office, why don't you go on ahead back." Having already been to the firm a time or two before, when the initial representation paperwork was filled out, Oliver would know the double-doored office almost directly behind the reception desk is Mignonette's.

—-

Nodding Oliver smiles brightly to Desiree. "Thanks you." With that he's on his way into the office his smile shifting gears as soon as he enters the room, it remains warm, yet there's a business like edge to it now, he takes a quick stock of his surroundings as soon as he's in making sure that his attention rests on Mignonette once he sees her.

—-

The office is neat and tidy, as it always is, and shows no signs of having been unlived in, despite the fact that in the days since the events at the lake, Mignonette has yet to have put in a full day at the office, working, as she has, from home as much as possible. But with her new medical clearance, she's been escaping the confines of the house, as pleasant as they are, and getting back to the job of, well, doing her job. "Come in, Mr. Marcos, thank you for being willing to reschedule for me. How can I help you?"

—-

Oliver heads towards the desk studying Mignonette his smile doesn't change. "It was no trouble at all, I'm just glad you're well enough to see me so soon." He sounds sincere, as he looks at Mignonette. "Well Miss Savoy, I've been looking into buying a strip club in down town, and while I've checked everything personally and can see nothing out of sorts, I thought it best to consult with you. After all you have the resources to make sure the club is a worth while buy."

—-

"I have been doing quite a bit better, and the fact that I'm here at all is thanks to you." But this is business, after all, and Mignonette would rather not keep Oliver, or hold him back from the business at hand, "What exactly have you checked into, when you were deciding to purchase the strip club?" Her tone is cool and professional, giving no indication one way or the other, as to how she might or might not feel about the particular nature of the intended purchase.

—-

Shrugging Oliver gives that a moments thought. "So far? I've checked the books, and made sure that both I and the bar have the right licenses, I still need to make sure that the building's up to code." His smile slips as he speaks, obviously he's taking this quite seriously. "I've also looked into some of the laws regarding nudity and drinking in the State. Although of course a more professional opinion would be welcome."

—-

"Well, we can certainly arrange for the inspectors to give the building a thorough review, check for any potential damage that we might need to be aware of. And I can have a forensic accountant review the books as well, just for additional certainty. The laws we can put together quite easily, but I'm also wondering if you plan on hiring completely new staff, or bringing in people who are already working there. They'll each need to be vetted, for security purposes. We don't want any nasty past business cropping up." Mignonette rises from her chair, moving over to the drink bar, as it were, "Can I get you anything? I'm afraid it's just about time for my medication."

—-

Nodding Oliver smiles. "I'll be bringing new staff, although it's possible we'll consider some of the current staff, of course I'll never mind another glance over such things." He flashes another grin Oliver shakes his head. "I'm good thank you."

—-

Mignonette pours herself a glass of water from the pitcher, before she returns to her desk, "Let me know if you change your mind." She sets the glass down, before she reaches into her desk to pull out a packet, having already portioned out her drugs for the day it seems, "Well, I'll want a list of the people you want to bring in, as well as a list of the people you want to keep, so that we can run a background check on all of them, make certain they don't have any skeletons in the closet we don't know about." Note she doesn't say 'at all'. Clearly, she has no doubts about her firm's ability to handle such little snags.

—-

Nodding Oliver flashes a grin, his peoples abilities in finding skeletons seems to be enough for him but he nods. "That shouldn't be a problem." He watches Mignonette his deep blue eyes meeting hers. "Shall I give you the information we've got, or will you want to begin without bias?"

—-

"I approach everything I do without bias, Mr. Marcos. That is, is it not, precisely the reason you chose to work with my firm, rather than one of the other reputable practices in the city? But keep your own records. Once I have finished my research, we can put them together and compare notes." Mignonette takes a moment, after raising a hand, to take her medication, before she finishes off the glass of water, "When will the business be willing to have our inspectors in to go over it? And when can you get me a copy of their books?"

—-

Oliver offers another of those single shouldered shrugs. "I'll need a week for the building inspectors, but I can have the books for you tomorrow." His tone shifts a little as he changes subjects, it becomes just a touch less business like. "I should probably let you know that I had a visit from a police officer in regards to the attack, they just wanted a statement." He chuckles. "It's not a problem of course, since I told them the complete truth, but I thought it best to mention it, since you're both my lawyer and the only other witness."

—-

Mignonette nods, as she returns to her work, pulling out a new case file and filing out the necessary specifics. Despite the fact that she lives in the computer age, she still seems to like to do things by hand, "You can have them delivered here. I'll let our accountant know he'll need to come in and give them a thorough review." At the change of subject, she looks up, setting aside the pen, "What exactly did you tell them, if I may ask? I also had a visit from the police department, a Detective Garnez."

—-

There's a nod at the mention of the Detective, an almost amused smile's present. "I told them that something that if forced to identify I'd call a bear attacked you, only to be attacked by two large dogs… possibly wolves." He grins faintly. "I told them I took the attack from the dogs as a good reason to grab you and run."

—-

"That's just about what I told them as well. It seemed to pacify her. She off looking for the owner who let them off of their leash." Mignonette picks the pen back up, but doesn't begin to write again, "I really haven't thanked you properly for what you did, Mr. Marcos, you could have easily left me to the thing that attacked me." It's not like she doesn't know at least some of Oliver's background, "I appreciate the fact that you did not."

—-

Nodding Oliver sighs. "I choose to provide people with products the law frowns upon, despite what you may have been taught, that doesn't make me a monster. I had the chance to help you and I took it. If I'd left you there I'd have… Well lets just say it's not in my character." He sounds perfectly sincere, he's even a little uncomfortable at the praise and his own admission, he then flashes a wide grin, trying to break the moment with humour. "Anyway, I've always hated breaking in new lawyers."

—-

"The law is the law, Mr. Marcos. What is legal one day can be illegal the next. The law is fluid and dynamic, as are people, and I was taught to look on each case and each person with fresh eyes. That is precisely why my firm has been in business longer than this country has been established." Certainly Mignonette has never given even the slightest indication that she judges Oliver in any way. "Well, yes," she offers with an answering grin, "They can certainly be difficult to mold to your needs."

—-

Nodding Oliver smiles brightly as he rises from his seat. "Well Miss Savoy, I think we can both agree that it's a good job the law doesn't change too much, bot our jobs depend on it." He chuckles. "I've found it's more a matter of making sure you select the right lawyer, so that you can make your needs reasonable." He nods his head. "But I won't keep you any more, I'll have the books brought over, thank you for your time." He offers one final grin, this one personal, the slight edge of business gone. "I'm glad that you're recovering."

—-

Mignonette rises, as Oliver does, and she moves around to the other side of the desk, if only to walk him out of her office, "No matter how much the law changes, Mr. Marcos, I have a feeling there will always be a place in this world for people like me." A beat, "And for people like you." She answers his grin with a warm smile, "Anything that I can do to be of service, you always know how to reach me. And I am also glad to be recovering. I expect to be in fighting form before too long."
