Conversation Can Happen

A good day's rest is actually a good cure for what ails a person. Sleeping at night likely would help as well but it is something that rarely happens. After falling back into bed while being on the hunt, Quinn is a refreshed woman, at least mostly. The wound on her leg is well hidden beneath her dress slacks and she is walking perfectly well at the moment. With a laundry list of things that she'd like to accomplish in the coming week the illusionist steps into a very familiar art shop in order to speak to a 'tenant' of hers. Calling ahead would have been preferred but she was out anyway and it's always fun to drop in on a friend that is also a could be foe..

-

Calling ahead really would have been preferred, since lately Scarlett has been rather preoccupied herself. So preoccupied that she's not in the shop. When the bells above the door ring, she pulls herself from whatever it was she was doing in the back room, and enters the shop straightening her shirt a little. "Niveus," says the Fontane twin. "Long time, no see. What can I help you with today?"

-

Sure it would have been preferred, but since when does she honestly care what other people think? Or prefer. Or like, even. Still, despite the fact that she's the only one of her family left in the city Quinn seems rather cheery for her usual self. That still isn't saying much. "Scarlett." At least she's gotten over referring to the other woman as Umbra. "I'm going to start some more remodles on the warehouse. I didn't know if there was anything you might need purchased or constructed for your area."

-

"I've started work on it already." Scarlett eyes the woman, her demeanor and finally she raises her brow up a little. "I'll take care of the cost for the little section we're renting." As friendly as their last conversation was, she's not about to let Quinn pay for anything. She's a tenant and that's all there is to it. "Though I have to know. Why the hell are you so happy?" It comes out just like that. Curious, snoopy, busybody-like.

-

"I didn't say that I was going to pay for it." It comes out quick, blunt, just as most of what she says happens to. It's not actually venomous, however. "I just thought it would save a trip, and I'm looking for something to do." It must be nice to have days so open for now. Quinn blinks, though, and actually has to stop and assess how she's been behaving. "Aren't I always happy?" People just don't get it. Either way the woman answers the question. "I lost a sparring match."

-

"The supplies we need are already there." Mostly all she needs to do is see if she can get Hyde to help build some of the shelves, and fix up a few of the minor things that don't need a contractor. Adding in the drywall and some flooring, as well as soundproofing will be more extensive. Then it's just paint and polish, which she can take care of herself. "No, you're normally devoid of emotion," Scarlett points out. "So how does losing a sparring match make you happy? You get lucky or something?"

-

She's been doing a good deal of the heavy duty repairs on her space, but she has the time to mess with trial and error. It would be nice to have everything done before the start of the school year. "Very well. Just let me know if there's anything I can do." That's what people do to be nice, isn't it? If Scarlett is going to be a tenant they may as well not hate each other. "If I had gotten lucky, I wouldn't have lost." That's Quinn, completely not understanding the question. "It's just been a long time since I found someone to spar with and I actually got some sleep. I don't think that makes me any different."

-

There is no rush on the part of Scarlett, to get the coven area set up. Fact is, there's still really only three members — possibly two if Carter decides to bolt. She's not really spoken to him since their last run-in at the bar. "I think I've got it covered, really. I know you keep late nights, so I won't send the crews in before noon." As a courtesy, really. "That's not what I meant," the Fontane twin adds with a grin. "So they fought you to sleep then? Either way, sleep suits you. You seem… cheerful." The only other time Scarlett has seen the Niveus so was when she was drunk. Go figure.

-

The coven could be a good idea to Quinn, especially now that she doesn't have any family around. It would be much easier to feel less guilty. Yes, even Quinn can feel guilt sometimes. "It honestly doesn't matter when they're in there. If I'm awake, I'm awake. I'll have less time to sleep when school starts. Even less if my cousins come back." There's a part of her that almost wishes that they won't come back. She's baffled still for a moment before it actually strikes her. Quinn narrows her eyes for a moment before shrugging. "Yeah, no. That requires actually trying to be nice to someone." Old habits die hard. "And I don't have the time nor am I in a position for that." Now she's rambling. "Aaaaaanyway, cheerful isn't really in the game plan. Especially if I do end up at some Ren fest for whatever."

-

A snicker is what Quinn gets for her succinct 'yeah, no'. "A Ren fest? You? I really don't see it, Niveus." Scarlett gives the woman an appraising look, then shakes her head. "It honestly wouldn't suit you to go prancing around in period costume with all those 'how art thou's and 'huzzah's…" The jewelry? That Scarlett can handle easily. Anyone can get away with wearing period jewelry if the outfit is right, but she just can't wrap her head around Quinn decked out in full Rennaisance wear.

-

"Now that isn't part of the deal." Suddenly she's even more put off on the idea than she had been before. "I honestly wouldn't even be going except for it's part of a deal I made with my sparring partner. And I'm only going because he's a smith." The truth comes out. It all boils down to different ways to hurt people. That is a very Quinn like behavior. "I don't even really want to wear a costume. The deal is that if I can't fight in it, I won't wear it. I'm betting that I won't have to worry because he won't be able to find anything." This feels odd, however, having this conversation. "So, uh, how are things progressing with the coven?"

-

"Oh-ho! The plot thickens. Your sparring partner is male and he's going to find you an outfit? Have you been to one of these festivals before?" Scarlett arches her right eyebrow up, then shakes her head. "It's called 'fantasy armor', Niveus. It's made for play-fighting in. Chances are if he knows the circuit? He knows something that will suit you." The Fontane twin only knows of its existence due to the one summer she spent selling jewelry at a ren faire. "The coven is… not really progressing as much as I'd hoped," she admits truthfully.

-

Blink. This is still awkward, but having gotten some sleep she's not too apprehensive to speak with the other witch. "Well, yes. We met when some damn mutt knocked me over." She still should find it and kick it. "He just said that it would be fun and something that I should try, but I explained to him that my idea of fun is somewhat… different." Than anyone else's, usually. Quinn shifts uncomfortably as she is finding that she may be in a bad position afterall. "Well, the second half is that he actually has to drop it off where I live. I highly doubt he'll believe that I life in a warehouse." Yet the answer that she gets about the coven, the attempt at a subject change, is not what she expected. "Really? That surprises me. I think it's an excellent idea."

-

"That may mean that he enjoys your company and is looking for ways to spend time with you." Scarlett shrugs. It's not like she's got a whole lot of success rate with the men in her life, so she's probably not the best one to talk to about these things. "Besides which, a lot of people are renovating warehouses these days for studio apartments or open-spaced living." There's a small 'ehh' and she nods. "Well I've not really been out harassing the witches in the city. To be honest, I think I'm too fussy about who I want to join."

-

"…" The notion is not acceptable. This is Quinn, after all, and even she realizes this. "You know, I think for someone to actually enjoy spending time with me they have to be out of their mind, intoxicated or after something. Or someone that I pester relentlessly." That was said for Scar's benefit. "You know, I'm starting to doubt this arrangement…" Still yet there are other things to speak of, which is comforting. This is almost starting to sound like a normal conversation and she simply doesn't have those. "That's understandable. I tend to be extremely picky on everything that I do." That's a surprise, certainly. "Yet you made the offer to me. That's letting your standards drop."

-

Scarlett bites the inside of her cheek to keep from laughing out loud at Quinn's reaction. "The possibility remains that he may like you. After all, he wanted to get close and fight with you and he wants to dress you up. Think about it, Niveus." While Quinn takes the two seconds or so to think about it before she denies it yet again, the Fontane twin shrugs. "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. Besides which, you've sometimes shown disdain for your own family and that makes me think you don't rightly like your coven either, or this nonsense."

-

Oh, the two seconds are taken to think about it. Denials will happen, too. "If he wanted to get closer, he wouldn't have used a quarter staff." Logic applied. It all makes sense. "Besides, I'm pretty sure that the first impression of someone you see is having a dog knock a woman over to get his rocks off likely isn't something that makes you like them." A pause. "Stupid mutt." Perhaps she should have had this conversation a few days prior, however. "Smallville seems too nice to be up to something, but I should probably call him out on it anyway, I bet." End it before it starts, in other words. Quinn sighs at the mention of her own family. "I never did end up coordinating with my cousins and they've already left, at least for the summer. I'm thinking about changing my number and just settling." Too much information. "Though keeping an enemy close is a good idea."

-

"How better to knock you down and have his own way with you? At least he knows you're not easy." Scarlett can't hold the laughter in any longer, and it bursts forth in the form of a lot of snickering and chuckles. It takes clearing her throat a few times to get it all out and done with. "That's too bad. About your cousins, I mean," she offers once the laughter stops. "I say go for it. If they need to find you, I'm sure they will." Grinning, she leans against the door frame of the apartment. "I know it is. That's why you offered me the space in your warehouse in the first place."

-

The laughter isn't appreciated. Were this any other day she would simply walk out. As it istands, Quinn merely stares at Scarlett. "Is this what typical conversation is like?" An odd conversation but Scarlett likely knows her enough to know where it's coming from. "Either way, I'll see what I can purchase from him. If he becomes clingy I'll just make him leave me alone." Her lips turn up in a slight smile, almost as if she's enjoying herself. "That could be, or it could be that I was being nice." As if it happens. "That's probably what I do. That just means I'll be around even more to make your life miserable." Another pause for drama. "Speaking of which, is that offer still open?"

-

Scarlett is stared at, and it only causes her to laugh all the more. Just as she got her giggles clamped up, they spill forth again. "Yes, Niveus. Yes this is how conversation typically goes. It doesn't hurt to have a bit of levity in your life." She eyes Quinn for a moment, and then cocks her head curiously. "Being nice, or trying to make my life miserable?" Though after a moment she nods. "Sure it is. If it's what you want. No pressure."

-

"It's a good thing that I like you." This is said almost like a threat, in that grumpy way that she has a tendency to do, yet something about her behavior indicates that she's actually quite alright with the flow of conversation. "I don't know; this idea of friendship is new to me. The only thing I know about it is what I see in movies, and sitting around in my pajamas eating ice cream doesn't sound like something I can quite manage to do yet." Surprisingly enough, Quinn laughs. "Maybe both, if that's possible." A soft sigh comes as finally the illusionist shakes her head. "What the hell. I'm in. New city, new life, new coven. Besides, maybe my specialties can help a little."

-

"Why not? Sitting around in your pajamas eating ice cream can be fun, so long as you don't do it too often." Scarlett motions to her hips. She'd like to keep her form. After all, she's got a very good reason to keep it these days. "Wonderful. We have a group meeting that's coming up on the twenty-second. Nothing spectacular, just a meet and greet for the summer solstice. Decide what we want to do with the meeting location, and figure out where everyone's strengths lie." This was supposed to happen at Beltane, but unfortunately it was just too hard to get everyone together.

-

Now this part of the conversation she catches on to very quickly. "I don't see you doing something like that too often, anyway." That can be taken as a compliment, yes. "As long as you're keeping your shape for a good reason." Quinn's reason is her night life. "Group meeting? I can make sure that my schedule is free. I'm not certain if introducing me to a group of anything is a good idea but I'll be there. I can even bring cocktail weenies if you'd prefer." Another attempt at a joke, this one just as bad as all the others. "Do you think that you and I will ever sit around in pajamas and eat ice cream?" It doesn't sound hopeful; in fact, it just sounds like an inquiry as to the price of an onion at the supermarket.

-

"Sex is a good enough reason as any," Scarlett jokes, though there's truth in it too. So she does take Quinn's words as a compliment. "That's what a coven is; a group." Shaking her head, she smiles at her frenemy. "Bring whatever you like. It's not like we're Wiccan and stuck in vast amounts of ritual. We're just, witches that want to share our knowledge." The last question comes as a huge surprise to Scarlett though. Eventually she lifts her shoulders in a shrug. "Don't count on it." Pause. "But I can't tell the future, so who knows?"

-

Well, now. That's rather forward. Quinn is not a person to mind forward. "I'll take your word for it. Sex to me is just something to do when bored." Yes, she's had it, but obviously not as a part of a relationship. "Don't tempt me or I will bring the weenies." The impassive way that Scarlett responds to the question is actually respected by Quinn, or at least understood. "Good. Because I think that would be weird. Although I wish I could tell the future. The most I can do is sometimes tell the past. Not too useful, or all that talented."

-

Forward? Just honest. Sex is a good reason to keep her body in shape. "Well you obviously just haven't had good sex, Niveus. If the only reason you're doing it is to alleviate boredom? You're missing out." There's no comment on the cocktail weenies, but she does say, "Sharing ice cream is out, but the chance of us sharing a case of beer? Yeah, I can see that happening. Some day."

-

"Then you can go into saying that there's some sort of emotional tie into it and yada, yada, yada. You know me, kind of. Do you really think that sort of bond is going to happen?" Her sources say no. "Not that I want that anyway. Great for other people and all, but other people aren't me." In all honesty, Quinn doesn't even really like ice cream. Beer, on the other hand, is a different story. "I'll be sure to get a case someday. Anyway, I'll be in touch. Let me know if there's anything you want done with your space." That's about as nice of a parting as she is able to give, which is quite the improvement.
