Pain Killers

De Soto Pharmacy

Large windows on the front and sides of the building allow outside light to shine upon the grey walls with a festive green horizontal stripe. Two cashier centers have been set up on either side of the entrance, though generally only one is occupied at any given time. Neatly lined rows of shelves comprise the majority of the pharmacy, carrying a vast assortment of over-the-counter medication, herbal remedies, bandaging, greeting cards, junk food; pretty much everything one could expect to find on a pharmacy shelf.

At the very back of the De Soto Pharmacy, is the actual pharmaceutical department. A pharmacist is on duty here twenty-four hours a day, filling out prescriptions.

It's close to midnight. In this day and age, twenty four hour stores are becoming more and more the norm - still, however, that doesn't mean it's the busiest time. So right now, at De Soto's Pharmacy, there are several customers wandering are the store, browsing, purchasing, or doing whatever they normally do this late at night.

And being close to midnight, Skylar finds himself at this Pharmacy, since the one he usually goes to is not open this late. Which in this day and age is odd, but so be it. The smith walks into the building, takes a basket at the front door, and moves his way through the store towards the medication section.

Midnight brings about a shift change. Entering through the staff door, Alexa can be seen lifting her hair up from under the lab coat so that it can flow over her shoulders. The name tag is adjusted and a pen set in her pocket. The night is just beginning for her. The next eight hours, she will have to work.

A sigh of relief can be breathed this evening as Colby Anderson is not running rampant through the store. It will be peaceful, it will be quiet, and it will mean that the poltergeist does not react to things. Glancing down the aisles she notices Skylar. A friendly wave is offered, as is a smile.

~*~

As he examines the shelves, Skylar notices the movement out of the corner of his eye and turns, looking down the aisle. "Elysia?" he asks, looping his basket over his arm (currently containing some extra strength pain killers) and making his way towards the newly spotted pharmacist.

"Or… Alexa, I should say," Sky corrects himself, glancing to her nametag once he stops in front of her. "I'm Skylar to the rest of the world - but please call me Sky. I didn't know you worked here. How have you been?"

~*~

Hearing her faire name actually makes her laugh, the sound ringing out in the mostly empty store. A hand lifts to cover her mouth. Once the laughter is under control, she smiles at him. "Alexa, yes. Pleased to meet you, Sky." An eye falls to the pain killers and she frowns. "Headache or muscles? To be honest those rarely work for muscle pain but can block a headache out quite quickly."

Before responding to the question she moves to a desk behind the counter. A book is located and brought over and she starts to flip through it. "I've been fairly well. With the exception of trading a shift earlier this week things have been quite quiet."

~*~

"Now she tells me," Sky says, glancing into the basket and offering a lopsided, wry smile. "This is the kind I had at home - went through the rest of the bottle this past week. Got rather destroyed at the melee the last day of the faire." Mind you, he did place second place, and had started out rather bruised even before the melee - which likely didn't help any. "Though I should thank you - a friend of mine purchased a few salves from your booth for me, one of which was for muscle soreness - I guess I didn't notice that it was doing most of the work, instead of the painkillers. But it certainly helped me."

As Alexa moves to the counter, Sky follows - not because he wants anything, it seems, but just to continue their conversation. "Did you enjoy the Fair? I had been hoping to run into you more during it, but things were rather hectic. Sorry for running off the other night, as well." Like he said - hectic.

~*~

"There's little need for apologies, it's not as though the SCA has only one event planned for the summer. I'm sure there will be others." Alexa flips through the pages, and then frowns a little. "For muscle pain or relaxer, you'll want the bottle that's…" Peering past him to the counter, she nods. "The blue bottle, third shelf down. 400mg liquid gels. They'll work faster and more effectively."

A soft smile appears. A nod following. "Mother knows her salves and tinctures well. She's actually studied herbalism for years. I'm glad they were able to help."

~*~

"Well, that's certainly true," Skylar replies. "And I was certainly pleased with the turn out we got this past weekend. Did pretty well at my booth, and saw a lot of new faces." Of course, he had also worked hard to invite new people as well, so that certainly helped. "And third shelf down?" he asks, looking over his shoulder. "Ok, thanks, I appreciate it."

"Speaking of the salve, I could use more of it. Think I could arrange to pick some up from you? And anything else you would recommend for muscles, aches - treatments for bruises and injuries picked up in sparring." Because, even though Sky is doing his best to let a certain sparring partner ignore him, he might as well be prepared. "Speaking of, you guys should really bring your wares to our weekly heavy fighting practice," he adds. "It really would go over well with the boys." And he can give permission, since he runs the practices.

~*~

"Third shelf down, blue bottle." There are plenty of bottles on the third shelf, not all are blue though. It should be an easy find before he checks out. "It was a great turnout, really. I think I remember the girl you were talking about. The one at the feast, right? She nearly cleared us out she was having so much fun buying things."

Alexa blinks at the question, then nods. "Mother is setting up shop at the Heritage Village for the summer. She's taking over for the old apothecary there, so if you don't see me you can always buy some there. I'm sure she'd give you the SCA discount." There is a few moments consideration before she adds, "Ask for the bone bruise liniment. You can pour some on a face cloth and wrap it around an ice pack and it should bring down the swelling. It smells like peppermint and I don't suggest putting it on your face because it will feel like it's burning the skin, but it works wonders." So says the girl with the pale skin.

"I'll let her know. Maybe she can bring out a few of the tinctures and salves, just to see what can be of use. She'd like that."

~*~

"Paige, the one I introduced you to? Yes, she was the one," Skylar replies with a small smile. "And oh, I didn't realize that. Apparently I should read the newsletter more. I work there myself, on the weekends," Skylar replies. "At the blacksmith shop," he adds, perhaps unnecessarily. "Bone bruise liniment," he repeats, remembering the name, and smiling his thanks. "Excellent, thank you, I'll do that. And please do - perhaps you'd like to come yourself? I don't remember ever seeing you around the practice, perhaps there is a weapon you'd like to learn? I'd be more then happy to help teach you."

~*~

Weapons, and her "affliction" may not be happy things. "I think I had best stay away from learning any sort of weaponry," Alexa states with a chuckle. "I've nearly broken myself with a bo-staff, taken my eye out with a bow, and dropped a sword on my toe." Shaking her head, she sighs. "It's honestly beyond me to learn something that requires skill and no klutziness." Then there is the matter of the poltergeist. "I think it should be safe enough if I came out to the practice to watch sometime though. Provided I stay away from the weapons."

~*~

"All the more reason to keep at it and learn. With proper instruction and guidance, the experience can be kept as safe as possible. But given enough time, not only could you learn a new skill, but it could help with your coordination, reaction times, and other things. Besides which?" Sky adds, with another lopsided grin. "It's a great stress reliever."

"Anyways, just figured I'd offer," Skylar says, with a smile. "But if you change your mind, you know where to find me."

~*~

"Proper instruction and guidance can be wonderful things, but trust me. Weapons and I don't really mix. It would be like… mixing coffee and ketchup." Likely not the most disgusting thing in the world but it's midnight, and it's what first springs to mind. Alexa nibbles at her lip and sighs. "Maybe I'll let you try to teach me sometime, but if I take off one of your toes, you can't say you weren't warned."

Stress is something she plays close to her chest. It keeps the poltergeist at bay.

~*~

"Well, I'll make sure not to hand you a live blade first thing out of the gate," Skylar says with a small, reassuring smile. He then glances over his shoulder, as a customer begins to approach the counter. "Well, I should probably let you get back to work. But thank you for the assistance, El… Alexa."

~*~

"I honestly think you underestimate my ability to injure myself with anything weapon-like. A wooden practice sword would easily take out an eye." Spotting the customer Alexa pauses in the conversation and nods them over to the drop-off area for prescriptions. "Any time. Good luck with the new pain killers. They should help you a lot more. Only take one at a time or you'll make yourself drowsy though." Then she's attending the customer, trying to see what their prescription is.

~*~

"Will do," Skylar replies. He seems about to say more, but sees she is busy. So, instead, he offers a wave and a smile, and dissapears down the aisle that Alexa pointed out earlier.
