Three days overdue, the first of the Fontane twins to pop out was Scarlett - though only by a few minutes before her fraternal twin Ivan. Their father (Allen), pleased as punch to have two healthy children, named them, giving them mythological middle names due to the Greek heritage far down the line. Four years later, their mother (Giselle) gave birth to another son, Trey. Three years after that, another daughter, Helen. The family was more than just the picture perfect American family - they were the family that would dress the twins up in similar outfits, and enjoy taking the entire family on outings and vacations.
At least, this was the outward appearance they provided to the world.
The children would, despite their normalcy, grow up to become exceptional people thanks to the heritage from their mother's side of the family. Magic coursed through each and every one of their veins, and each had ties to the powerful Umbra coven. Albeit, they didn't have a great deal of contact with their extended family on their mother's side, seeing their grandfather Gregory only once in a while around holidays or birthdays.
Scarlett had no idea why this was the way it was, but she easily accepted it as being normal. Not all family's got along, and she liked her grandfather well enough. It wasn't until much later that she would find out the truth of it all.
Scar and her twin were always together, always forced to hang out with one another, forced to dress similarly, and oftentimes forced to take care of the younger children. She was the more responsible of the two, the mother hen of the Fontane children. Whenever one of her brothers would find themselves in a situation of their own making, she took it upon herself to fix the mess before their parents found out. It wasn't until high school when things began to really change and become more competitive between the pair.
High school was their first chance for real individuality. Scarlett was a somewhat popular girl, though she sat at the borderline of two or three different groups. She could fit in most anywhere, be it with the artistic crowd, the cheerleaders, or the 'smart' kids. Her ability to blend is what catered to her particular popularity - unlike her twin's heavy partying and slight substance abuse. Scarlett sort of left him to that, focusing more on what she wanted to do with life.
During their time "apart", Scar practiced her own magic. Competing with herself so that she could become more powerful than her brother. Her focus at first was creating talismans and weaving protections around her younger siblings in order to keep them safe against what they would have to face in a few years - the truth about their family. As she continued to work with her magic, she melded that focus into her artwork as well treating each painting or sculpture as a larger talisman which she would give to those she cared about as gifts. Though her protection magic is quite strong, she's also become quite adept at elemental magics, learning to control the elements at a whim if necessary. Protecting oneself is a great defense, but sometimes a great defense also means that an excellent offense is also required.
Their differences are what has caused a slight bit of contention between them in more recent years. Ivan, choosing to follow the ways of their grandfather (of whom she knew the entire story now), and joining the coven which frightened her a little. Her brother's political ambitions and need for wealth directly oppose her more artistic flair, and down-to-earth attitude. While she's quite content to be renting a small home/gallery in the poorest part of the city, keeping out of the coven and the reach of her grandfather as much as possible, she watches her brother strive to achieve some semblance of importance.
